Cutting-edge production of the new generation of Spectos mailbox readers through cooperation with DELTEC electronics
For the production of the new generation of the Spectos RFID mailbox reader, the so-called Last Mile Unit, Spectos has been working together with DELTEC electronics GmbH from Dresden since 2020. This cooperation is an excellent example of the synergies that can be achieved in Silicon Saxony. The Last Mile Unit is a customized and sophisticated solution for measuring the quality of postal services. The battery-powered device uses RFID technology and has mobile connectivity via the Internet of Things (IoT). The in-house development by Spectos is specifically used to detect test items in the mailbox of receivers (mailagents) as part of transit time measurements.
Following an extensive and nationwide search for contract manufacturers, Spectos made the decision to work with DELTEC electronics. An important factor was the shared location in Dresden. This makes it possible to visit the production directly on site and to ensure that the devices are produced regularly on demand. Short delivery times, the possibility of using site technology and flexibility in the manufacture of smaller series are further advantages of the cooperation between the Dresden companies.
The cooperation is a win-win for both sides: During the chip crisis and a difficult material procurement environment, special components for manufacturing were successfully sourced via the Spectos Unit in Taiwan to ensure device production for ongoing projects. In addition, as an expert in EMS device manufacturing, DELTEC can support the development and optimization of the RFID reader with its competence in PCB design.
By combining the strengths and resources of the two Dresden-based companies, a high-quality and customized solution has been created to meet the needs of the Spectos customers in the postal & logistics sector.
