After a Covid-imposed break of 2 years, our Head of Sales and Business Development, Bertrand Späth, was happy to be back at Parcel+Post Expo 2021, the world’s leading event for postal and parcel companies. We questioned Bertrand about the 5 major learnings from Vienna 2021. This is what he’s discovered:

  1. People enjoyed meeting face-to-face at the Parcel+Post Expo 2021. Fairs are still a thing in a post-covid world. Those informal meetings of random persons you would have never met in an online conference happen only in real-life events. Also, when people are at fairs, they are present not only physically, but also with their minds, which is not the case for online fairs.
  2. Lockers and PUDOs are here to stay and will change the way postal operators deliver. Among others, refrigerated parcel lockers might change how food is delivered.
  3. CN22 customs declaration is becoming a very important topic and also an interesting business for postal operators. Since July 1st, 2021, all shipments that enter the EU must be taxed. This includes all the shipments coming from China. This makes reading CN22 labels very important, since it needs to be accurate. However, this is very difficult since there are no databases to compare the data with, like with addresses. Many readings have to be decoded manually, which is a big effort for postal operators.
  4. Electrification of the delivery infrastructure is a reality. Gas-powered vehicles are definitely a thing of the past. Postal operators aim to be emissions free and have clear goals toward this end for the next few years.
  5. Robotization and automation of deliveries is still in its infancy, but we see different developments that might one day come to reality.
