Data4City
The Urban Voice Shapes the City of the Future
Through smart networks, Data4City (D4C) designs a model that is based on the needs of citizens. The wishes of the inhabitants become the driving force for innovation and urban development for the smart city of tomorrow!

PinCity - The Smart City App
The PinCity App is a result of the Data4City project. The Data4City project explores new ways of collecting data with the help of a local community of citizens. The aim is to create an alternative to the trend of many sensors in our cities.

The PinCity App collects targeted local data, which is analyzed and exploited to explore new ways to intelligent, demand- and citizen-oriented urban development. With the app, citizens can answer location-related questions about cleanliness, security, parking, bin and container filling levels and more, helping to create a real-time data basis for urban services. In addition, users can tag and share their own location-related topics, ideas and issues.

The Data4City Project
The D4C project was launched at the end of 2017. It uses the ‘hyperlocal’ approach to develop a city data platform that can translate citizen needs into concrete services. Project partners include Spectos GmbH, and the KNOWLEDGE ARCHITECTURE LABORATORY at the TU Dresden.
Data4City
Value Creation
Development of a city data platform and tool suite that enables the targeted collection, analysis and exploitation of urban data and the derivation of innovative services and products.
Study Participants for Data4City
For the project, resident panels are set up for the neighborhoods in Dresden and are continuously surveyed.
The data platform and interactive app is constructed based on the responses from the brief surveys given to participants from the neighborhoods of Johannstadt and Friedrichstadt. Topics that affect the residents range from questions about public transportation, security, delivery services to the overall infrastructure of the neighborhoods.
City Planning for the Future
A community is a living entity that is in a constant change and development. By using ‘community panels’, the needs and wishes of residents are provided to give an accurate view of daily life. The invaluable data that is collected gives service providers and city planners the opportunity to focus on demand-driven, citizen-centered and intelligent urban planning.
